Life member Ed Hege passes away just a few months short of his 100th birthday

We are saddened to report the passing of another long time Brother Elk.

SALISBURY - Edward N. Hege, 99, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at North Carolina State Veterans Home.

Born Feb. 23, 1910, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Kate McCless Hege and John D. Hege, Sr. A graduate of Boyden High School and the Suwanee Military Academy in Tennessee, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Hege was employed by North Carolina Finishing Company, where he was manager of Information Services.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Susan Rankin Hege, who died Dec. 18, 2002; and brother John D. Hege, Jr.

Survivors include his two sons, Edward R. Hege (Jane) of Salisbury and John T. Hege (Luciene) of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Amy Atwell (Mark) of Oak Island and Jeffrey Hege of Norfolk, Va.; and one great-granddaughter, Naiema Hege.

Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the Salisbury National Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard.
