Brother Perry Goodman passes away on Dec 29

SALISBURY - Perry Gene Goodman, 58, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack.

Born Sept. 16, 1951, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Louise Turner Goodman and Adam Lamont Goodman, Sr. A graduate of South Rowan High School, Class of 1969, he was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving in Vietnam. Mr. Goodman retired from Army National Guard in 2000 and retired from General Electric in 2007.

He was a member of Elks Lodge, Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342, VFW Post 3006 and 63rd and 26th Civil War Re-Enactment Groups.

Mr. Goodman was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include Linda Owens Goodman, whom he married Nov. 22, 1992; sons James Kevin Goodman (Caroline) of Hawaii and Brian Nelson Smith (Marie) of Salisbury; daughter Amy Stoner (Jonah) of Mooresville; brothers Jeff Goodman (Connie) of Rocky Mount, Lamont Goodman of South Carolina, Phil Goodman of Florida; and four grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Michael Goodman, Hayden Smith and Lilly Stoner.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2 at Lyerly Funeral Home; and at other times, the family will be at the home at 1910 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury.

Service: 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4 in the James C. Lyerly Chapel with the chaplain for the 63rd officiating. Burial will follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery, with military honors by the 63rd and 26th Civil War Re-Enactment Groups.
